Roger Waters is pursuing legal action against the “unconstitutional” decision of a German city council to cancel his upcoming concert

Freedom of speech is defended by Roger Waters against cancel culture

Roger Waters has announced that he is pursuing legal action against the “unconstitutional” decision of a German city council to cancel his May 28 concert because of his alleged status “one of the world’s best-known antisemites”.

In response to proposed concert cancellations in Frankfurt and Munich, Roger Waters defends free speech and files a lawsuit

In February 2023, the Hessian State Government and Magistrate of the City of Frankfurt declared their plan to terminate a concert slated for 28 May by Roger Waters at the Festhalle. Just a few days later, on 28 February, a proposal was submitted in Munich’s City Council to annul the performance booked for 21 May at Munich Olympiahalle. These moves are unlawful, baseless and borne out of the false claim that Roger Waters is antisemitic, which is not true.

As a result of this unilateral, politically motivated action, Mr Waters has instructed his lawyers to take all necessary steps to overturn this unjustifiable decision as soon as possible. In Frankfurt, Munich and any other city in any other country, everyone is free to see him perform, so that his fundamental human right of freedom of speech is protected.

If this blatant attempt to silence him is left unchallenged, Waters believes it could have serious, far-reaching consequences for artists and activists worldwide.
