A new product, developed through a collaboration between FEV and ProLogium, is set to revolutionize the electric car industry. The two companies, known for their expertise in the automotive and energy sectors, have joined forces to create a battery that meets the demands of modern customers.

The LLCB technology (Large-Footprint Lithium Ceramic Battery) boasts an anode made of 100% silicon, providing a 10-times higher capacity density compared to the graphite anodes commonly used in electric cars today. This results in reduced weight and increased efficiency, allowing for a maximum range of 1,000 km or a weight savings of up to 300 kg, depending on the vehicle segment and usage.

In addition, the solid-state electrolyte used in the LLCB is non-flammable, providing increased safety against thermal runaway and preventing potential short circuits caused by leaking electrolyte fluid. This makes it an ideal choice for electric vehicles.

“We are proud to have successfully combined ProLogium’s expertise in cell development with our own development, system, and testing knowledge,” said Dr. Thomas Hülshorst, Global Vice President Electric Powertrain at FEV. “Our collaboration on battery packs and concept designs not only meets regulatory standards, but also exceeds market requirements.”

The LLCB also offers ultra-fast charging capabilities, with the ability to charge from 5 to 60 percent in just five minutes, providing an average range of 300 km. After an additional three minutes, the battery can reach 80 percent and cover an additional 100 km. This brings charging times closer to the duration of a refueling process for vehicles with combustion engines.

FEV and ProLogium announced their continued efforts in LLCB development at the Paris Motor Show 2024. This collaboration is expected to have a significant impact on the electric car market in the future.
