Naturewatch Foundation, a leading animal welfare charity, has announced a significant achievement in its mission to promote cruelty-free living. Annie Sloan, a popular home improvement brand, has received the foundation’s endorsement in their Compassionate Shopping Guide.

This endorsement is a testament to Annie Sloan’s commitment to producing products that are free from animal testing and do not contain any ingredients tested on animals. As the first painting and decorating company to receive third-party cruelty-free endorsement, Annie Sloan has set a new standard in the industry.

The endorsement comes after Naturewatch Foundation’s “Paint With Kindness, Not Cruelty” campaign, which advocates for the home improvement sector to adopt cruelty-free standards. This campaign gained support from the foundation’s followers, leading to Annie Sloan becoming the first cruelty-free home improvement brand to be endorsed.

While the UK banned animal testing for finished household products in 2015, there are still loopholes that allow for the testing of ingredients that could potentially be used in these products. Naturewatch Foundation continues to push for stronger legislation to ensure that all aspects of home life can be cruelty-free.

Annie Sloan, founded in 1990, is renowned for its versatile Chalk Paint™, which can be used on various surfaces such as wood, glass, brick, and laminate, making it a popular choice for furniture transformation. The company also produces a range of sustainable wall and satin paints in their purpose-built factory in Oxford, demonstrating their commitment to ethical and environmental values.

Donna Smith, Editor of the Compassionate Shopping Guide, expressed her excitement at welcoming Annie Sloan to the guide. She also acknowledged the challenges that consumers face in identifying cruelty-free options, particularly in the home improvement industry. Smith hopes that Annie Sloan’s endorsement will inspire other painting and decorating brands to follow suit and join the guide.

Annie Sloan’s founder and designer, Annie Sloan CBE, shared her enthusiasm about the endorsement, stating that caring for the environment is crucial for our well-being. She also emphasized the importance of animal welfare and sustainable practices.

Chloe Bullock, an award-winning ethical interior designer of Materialise Interiors, also expressed her support for Annie Sloan’s endorsement, praising the brand for demonstrating that products can be made to be compassionate. Bullock also urged consumers to support smaller, innovative brands like Annie Sloan, who can drive positive change in the industry.

Ethical consumers can access the Compassionate Shopping Guide online to find hundreds of cruelty-free personal care and household brands. Home improvement companies interested in joining the guide and promoting cruelty-free standards can find more information and apply on the Compassionate Shopping Guide website.
