After a successful pilot and the qualification of trained assessors, The Cyber Scheme has been awarded a licence by the UK Cyber Security Council to assess and recommend individuals for the Incident Response specialism across Chartered, Principal, and Practitioner levels.

Incident Response focuses on the preparation for, management, and resolution of cyber security incidents to reduce organisational impact and prevent repeat occurrences. This critical role ensures the security of an organisation’s information systems and data by implementing structured processes to investigate and address breaches. Incident Responders also play a key role in designing preventative measures to avoid similar incidents.

Applicants for this professional title must showcase their ability to handle a variety of situations, illustrating how they addressed specific incidents, the mitigation strategies applied, insights gained, and their approach to furthering their skills and knowledge in this domain.

The Cyber Scheme invites applications from professionals in the field and offers a range of resources to assist candidates. These include detailed guidance, best-practice approaches, and on-demand webinars to ensure applicants are well-supported throughout the process.

Support is also available for Government and Public Sector employees eligible for funding through the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)’s Cyber Professional Titles Fund.

To further support registrants, The Cyber Scheme is developing a comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) policy and an administrative portal. This system will help title holders easily manage their ongoing professional development, with points allocated for activities relevant to their field.

Andy Jones, Strategy Director at The Cyber Scheme, stated:“Launching Incident Response as the newest specialism to be recognised for Professional Registration is an important development for the cyber security industry, given the numbers of people who recognise the responsibilities of an incident responder within their job role.

“The Cyber Scheme continues to be at the forefront of strategic development as an inaugural Licensed Body for the UK Cyber Security Council, and will support individuals as they professionalise their career path from Practitioner to Chartered Level in this and other fields as they are developed.”
