Juvenile Arthritis Research has been named as a finalist in the 2024 Charity Heroes Awards, a new awards program created by Benefact Group to recognize and support charities making positive change.

The charity has been selected as a finalist for the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ category, out of seven total award categories. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony held at The Tower of London on November 28, 2024. The winning charity will receive a grant of £5,000, while the runner-up will receive £1,000.

Juvenile Arthritis Research is a small charity that has made a significant impact in the lives of families affected by Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). According to the charity’s founder Richard Beesley, every week, 20 families in the UK receive the shocking news that their child has JIA, a condition most people associate with the elderly. One of these families is Abbie’s, a 12-year-old who has been battling arthritis since she was just one year old. Abbie and her mother joined forces with Juvenile Arthritis Research to create “A Little Box of Hope,” a support pack for families dealing with JIA. Each pack is accompanied by a handwritten note from Abbie herself.

Beesley states, “Abbie is one of our youngest and longest-serving volunteers. She always goes above and beyond and is truly deserving of being a finalist in the Volunteer of the Year category for the Benefact Group’s charity heroes awards. This recognition not only showcases Abbie’s dedication, but also allows us to continue our vital support work for families.”

Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive of Benefact Group, expressed his excitement for the finalists of the Charity Heroes Awards. He explains that the awards are designed to celebrate and support charities like Juvenile Arthritis Research, which work tirelessly to bring about positive change. Benefact Group, a family of award-winning specialist financial services companies, is also the third largest corporate donor to charity in the UK. Hews adds that all of their profits go towards charitable causes, with a goal to reach £250 million in donations by 2025.
