On Friday, December 20th, 2024, EUROJET Turbo GmbH (EUROJET), the consortium responsible for the EJ200 engine installed in the Eurofighter Typhoon, signed a contract with the NATO Eurofighter & Tornado Management Agency (NETMA) to provide 59 new EJ200 engines for the Spanish Air Force.

The contract was signed at Getafe Air Force Base in Madrid between Air Vice Marshall (AVM) Simon Ellard (ret.), General Manager of NETMA, and Ralf Breiling, CEO of EUROJET. It covers the production of EJ200 engines for the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft in the second phase of the Halcón acquisition project.

The four partner companies of the EUROJET consortium, Rolls-Royce, MTU Aero Engines, ITP Aero, and Avio Aero, will be responsible for the production of the engine modules. ITP Aero will conduct the final assembly of the engines at their Ajalvir facility, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029.

In a statement, Ralf Breiling expressed his confidence in the EJ200 engine and the Eurofighter platform, saying that the continued support from Spain and other core nations is inspiring. He emphasized the EJ200’s world-class, combat-proven capabilities and its importance in maintaining European defense technology.

NETMA’s General Manager, AVM Simon Ellard (ret.), also praised the signing of the contract, calling it a successful collaborative effort to provide 59 engines for Spain. He highlighted the EJ200’s cutting-edge performance and its role in securing the skies and reinforcing NATO’s deterrence capabilities.

The EUROJET consortium, responsible for managing the EJ200 engine program, is made up of shareholders Rolls-Royce (UK), MTU Aero Engines (Germany), ITP Aero (Spain), and Avio Aero (Italy). The engine has a proven track record of exceptional performance and has been delivered to Air Force customer fleets of nine nations since its first production in 2003. It has achieved over 1.5 million engine flying hours.
