Young Gloucestershire, a well-respected youth work charity dedicated to supporting children, young people, and families in Gloucestershire, has been recognized for their outstanding partnership with the Paediatric Team at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. At the NHS Gloucestershire Hospitals Staff Awards on Thursday 5 December, 2024, the organization was presented with the Partnership Award, highlighting their collaborative efforts in providing crucial mental health support to young people in crisis.

The partnership between Young Gloucestershire and the Paediatric Team has resulted in significant improvements in the care available to young people in mental health crises. By integrating youth work into hospital settings, the partnership has not only reduced re-admissions but also provided tailored and holistic support to young people, bridging the gap between medical services and community-based care.

The hospital youth work team at Young Gloucestershire works closely with children, young people, and their families during some of the most challenging moments in their lives. By addressing practical and emotional needs, offering signposting to additional support, and providing a consistent presence, the team ensures that no young person feels alone or unsupported.

In response to the recognition, Ione Sime, Senior Manager for Young Gloucestershire, expressed their pride in receiving the award alongside the Paediatric Team at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Sime stated, “It is a privilege to work alongside NHS colleagues to provide much-needed support for children, young people, and families when they need it most. This award is a testament to what can be achieved when charities and the NHS come together to create meaningful, positive change.”

The partnership between Young Gloucestershire and the Paediatric Team highlights the impact of a collaborative approach to youth mental health care, combining the expertise of clinical teams with the relational and practical skills of youth workers. Together, they have provided a crucial safety net for vulnerable young people, helping them build resilience, regain confidence, and move forward with hope.

Young Gloucestershire’s hospital youth work initiative continues to set an example for how charities and statutory services can work together to achieve better outcomes for children, young people, and families in Gloucestershire.
